10 top tips for breastfeeding mums

Breastfeeding is an emotive subject and doesn’t come easily to every new mum, but if you do want to breastfeed your new baby, these expert tips can help things go smoothly for you and your baby.

Ok most of these tips are very useful but I'd like to add a few comments - you don't need to have all the areola in the mouth necessarily just a good mouthful. Some women's areolla are bigger than others so trying to get the whole lot in would prove impossible. Also the scaremongering about co-sleeping (feeding lying down) is not helpful. Millions if not billions of babies successfully co-sleep with their babies worldwide - as long as sensible precautions are taken ie no smoking, drink or drugs taken, no duvets, no sleeping on sofas etc etc this can be a great way to encourage and support breastfeeding and makes life a whole lot easier for sleep deprived mums!
