23 weeks

I feel as though time is flying past me. According to the iVillage pregnancy week by week tool, my baby is now undergoing massive changes that will help him/ her to breath independently after birth. My baby is practising in and out breaths. My baby is getting ready. My body is doing some pretty amazing stuff too. It’s swelling. Boy, is it ever.

I am now the proud owner of an ‘outy’ belly button. Never before have I had the ‘pleasure’ to witness parts of me popping out like this. Not even at the end, which is the point those who have been asked tell me it happened to them. I am only half way through. Is this baby going to be big, or is it just me who is going to come out of this all a little larger than life? Hmmm.

Other attractions at 23 weeks gestation include: getting ready for a glucose screen. Must remember not to eat a bowl of fruity porridge before hand, like I did last time. I am also to expect a weight gain of around a pound a week. Only a pound?! Surely, that’s not right. Oh dear.

More than this though, reaching 23 weeks means that I am that little bit closer to meeting my baby. I am almost there. I can taste the sweet victory of crossing the finishing line once more. I am 23 weeks pregnant. I just wish I didn’t look 40 weeks by the end of the day...

This week, I am taking the kids to the Trafford Centre. I have back up in the form of my sister, there for entertaining purposes only. I will be there to buy maternity clothes. There is only so long I can walk around in pre-pregnancy clothes and an inane-breathing-in-grin on my face. I want some comfort, damn it.

So here I go. I am almost in my sixth month of pregnancy. I am blooming. There is no mistaking that I have a bun in the oven. I guess it’s time to make the most of it now. I’m really looking forward to getting some clothes with waistbands that reach the armpits. Hipsters are so last season, anyway!
