Easter is the perfect time to put your craft-making skills to the test. Here are five fun ideas to get you motivated

Fabulous festive table centre

Hand-painted blown eggs form the basis of this unique centrepiece to the Easter table.

You will need:

Half a dozen or so eggs Darning needle Small plastic syringe or fine drinking straw Skewer Range of artists' paintbrushes (natural bristle if possible) Acrylic paints Jar of water (for rinsing brushes) Craft glue Glitter, sequins, feathers or other decorating materials Large glass vase or bowl Pillar candle (optional)

To make:

Gently pierce the eggs with the darning needle at either end, and riddle the yolks to break them up. Using either a small plastic syringe or a fine drinking straw, blow gently through one end of each egg to empty the contents through the other. (Reserve the contents for making into scrambled eggs, omelettes or for baking with later on.) Wash the eggs out with a solution of water and vinegar and allow to dry thoroughly. Pass a skewer through the first egg and paint your design over half of it, taking care to protect your clothing and furniture. (Pearlescent paints give a stunning effect.) Place the egg on its unpainted side to dry. When completely dry, continue the design on the other side of the egg. Decorate further using glue and various decorating materials if you wish. Display the eggs carefully in a large glass vase, or, if you prefer, place a pillar candle in the centre of a large glass bowl and surround with the eggs.
