Cometh the New Year, cometh the detox as people the world over try to pound away the festive poundage on the treadmill or attempt to diet away the merry excess
That sluggish January feeling is much like a slow gradual hangover that becomes really difficult to shake off. The reality of what's going on inside the body is that you've added too much to the toxic load and the organs of detoxification such as your liver or digestive system can no longer cope well.
Many a new year's resolution involves kick-starting a drastic exercise or detox programme that is simply not sustainable. Instead, how about reminding yourself of a few of the detox basics, namely, body-brushing, easy exercise and hydrating, aiming for longevity rather than burning out a few weeks down the line?
Rule 1: Brush up on the basics
Dry skin brushing is one of the most powerful ways to cleanse and exfoliate the skin and assist the job of the kidneys.
It removes dead skin cells, clears the pores and stimulates the production of sebum - all of which help to improve the tone and texture of your skin. It also helps to cleanse the lymphatic system and increases blood circulation to the underlying organs and tissues in the body. It also helps to break cellulite down.
Brush the skin before a bath or shower. Using a special skin brush, use clean sweeps in long stroking movements, and always towards the heart. The strokes should feel firm and your skin will tingle afterwards.
