As a Blue Peter presenter Katy Hill had her fair share of adventures, but these days she faces tougher challenges - juggling full-time motherhood with a TV career. From Daybreak to day’s end, Katy and husband Trey have their hands full with a five-year-old daughter and toddler son. And there’s not a nanny in sight. This could get messy…

And...I’m back in the room!

Our St Lucia trip with Daybreak was amazing. Such a great resort! I’ll be sure to let you know when the competition launches so you can get on the phone!

But long before landing, the military precision I had to leave behind was quite something! The house was covered with lists, the ironing up to date, the place pristine - WHY we feel the need to leave things like this as mothers I don’t know! Why I had to leave a show home when it was only going to be occupied by the kids and their sitter Jenny is anyone's guess!

But I guess in my head I wanted to know that all my little ducks were in a row and I’d left things as streamlined for my absence as possible so the kids would have a great time. I even made Kaya a little chart so she could tick off the days while we were away, and see what she’d be doing each day!

Heading off for Gatwick my feelings were SO mixed. Great to have a few days away filming with Trey - even if it WAS work, it would be sunny, and kid-free, and lovely to have adult time. But sad to be leaving the kids behind, and worried that they’d have a great time. Which of course they did!

As did we. The resort was amazing - no kids allowed, which was great for me because it meant I didn’t have the constant reminder of mine back home I’d have otherwise had. And even though we were working, it was lovely to have a few days of only thinking about ME - ONLY me - and the job in hand. No packed lunches, nappies, or baths to worry about - just whether I could breathe in enough to carry off a bikini! Thankfully www.figleaves.com had some amazing bikinis in stock - so I felt well covered!

Getting home and Jenny and the kids had made us lovely welcome home signs, and everyone had genuinely had a ball! But since we landed first thing in the morning, we had to hit the ground running with the school run, and I feel like I’ve been running ever since!

Friday night, and we pulled out all the stops to go to a Firework party. BIG MISTAKE! Since last year was the first year Kaya has liked it, and Akira’s never been before, I don’t quite know what I was thinking!

We had to drive for 30 minutes to get there, then it was all a bit too dark, then the fireworks started un-announced. I’d taken ear defenders, but Akira didn’t want to wear them. He lasted the first 3 bangs, then there was one of those rockets that goes 'shhhheeeewwwwww,' then a few seconds of silence before the B-A-N-G and an explosion of lights. That was IT! Akira lost the plot! It was like a nightmare - he was trying to burrow into my neck, I was running to get indoors - then another B-A-N-G...more screams...more burrowing. It was like being in some kind of war zone - there was no escaping the noise!

I managed to take refuge in a building, and calm him down. Five minutes later my phone started ringing. It was Trey. 'Where are you' I asked. 'In the car,' came his sorry answer! This time around Kaya was fine with the sound, but because it was a small display, thought the fireworks were going to hit her! Maximum effort, minimum reward! I don’t know why we bothered! We drove home, still jet lagged and totally deflated. ;-(

Saturday night and we were off to an 80’s birthday party. So fun! I went as Daisy Duke, and Trey was Han Solo. Thank goodness for my angel of a mum, who stayed overnight with the kids, and looked after them 'the morning after' so we could have a leisurely recovery brunch with our friends, before having to be back in the 5th gear of parenting.

And just to challenge ourselves a bit more this week we’re having our family bathroom re-done. Night one... and I decided I’d make it fun for the kids by telling them we were having an 'olden days' bath in the kitchen. I lit candles, and lanterns, and put water in the baby bath! My vision of how 'olden days bath' fun would pan out and the reality couldn’t have been more different! Kaya just said 'no, thanks' and went off to have a shower, and Akira lasted about two minutes in the 'iggle piggle boat' before realising he could make waves! BIG waves - all over floor! Thank goodness our kitchen floor is tiled!

Off to chase my tail a bit more! Have a great week

This Week I’m Loving:

Since the weather has suddenly turned, and it’s now FREEZING, I’m so into the new wool duvet I got for Akira from The Wool Room. The site sells everything wool - from bedding to cushions - you can even adopt a sheep for someone for Christmas! I’m loving wool since it’s natural, renewable and eco-friendly and promotes sleep because it helps to regulate your temperature and comfort. And since The Wool Room makes duvets for all bed sizes - maybe it’s time to treat the family to a few extra zzzz’s! And you in the process! See what I did there! ;-) x
