Bank holiday yoga
The first Bank holiday weekend offered me a prime opportunity to have a good Wii Fit Plus session as, on Good Friday, my husband took my son out for the day.
It was bliss: I was able to plan my entire day - an hour of Wii Fit Plus in the morning followed by an afternoon of lounging in the ridiculously warm weather reading my book.
As much of my initial Wii Fit Plus experience had been based on cardiovascular exercise and game playing, I was keen to try the yoga options as I looked to incorporate them into my Wii Fit Plus routine.
Since having my son, one of my main goals has been to tone up and improve my overall core strength. Having said that, I'm something of a novice when it comes to yoga (I attended one or two classes when I was younger but never saw it through) so I was careful to listen to the on-screen instructor.
I started off with some of the more basic poses: Half Moon, Spine Extension and Warrior.
I gradually increased the time I spent in each pose as my confidence grew. All the while I was reassured by the instructor's gentle commands - offering advice on effective breathing, among other things.
As I had been able to clear a full morning to try things out I could spend a little more time learning the ropes but once I'm up and running properly I'll be able to fit in half-an-hour of yoga here and there.
Indeed, one piece of advice I would give to anyone in a similar situation to me is to find a quiet period - maybe an evening when the kids are in bed - to familiarise yourself with the yoga section of Wii Fit Plus.
By the end of my session, I certainly felt like I had developed my knoweldge of yoga and I'd also discovered some muscles I never knew existed!
I'm now building up a good bank of core exercises for my personal routine and, more importantly, I'm feeling like my regular sessions are making a difference, albeit they tend to be short and sweet.
