When speed is of the essence who are you going to turn to?
I have a dirty secret: I'm a shaver. Although I've dabbled in waxing and I've even checked out lasering, when the chips are down and immediate smoothness is required I whip out the razor every time
But even as I furtively hack away at my armpits and legs I'm slightly ashamed, and I'm ashamed because I know better. I know better than to treat my skin so badly that it often rebels with a rash, and I certainly know better than to use an ancient (that can't be rust can it?) disposable razor, or sneakily 'borrow' my boyfriend's.
Trouble is, the need for immediate smoothness can sneak up on a girl. In my case it's always because some part of me is about to be seen in public.
Even though I'm frighteningly well-organised there are days when the camoflague I was planning to wear just doesn't work out. Which results in the surprise sleeveless dress with full armpit disclosure.
Or the weather conspires to taunt me - how dare you not be grateful for a freakishly hot day in April? Well, I'm often not especially grateful because the tights or trousers I was planning to wear now look absurd so I'm going to have to get my legs out.
The only other need for immediate smoothness is for a more private public viewing, and that can be the most urgent need of all.
In moments like these I would always reach, like an addict who knows that each fix only worsens the addiction, for my trusty 'friend' the razor. Well, no more! Thanks to the hair-removal-tastic sponsorship of www.TopTipsForGirls.com by Nair I was sent a bucket load of products to play with.
And their Exfoliating Hair Removal Cream is my new best friend. I fully admit I was extremely cynical as I slapped it on for the first time - I've been shaving for so long it feels very weird and frankly disloyal to do anything else.
But with barely time to brush my teeth and wash my face it was time to wipe the stuff off and rinse in the shower. (One thing I did have time to notice was that Nair isn't evil-smelling like other depilatory creams I've come across.)
Well ladies, you could have knocked me down with a feather - my legs were amazing! They were totally hair free, super smooth (thanks to the in-built exfoliation), and there was no need to add another layer of goopy moisturiser, let alone lots of tiny bits of loo paper to stem the flow of blood from the usual nicks and cuts.
I'm writing this nearly a week later and I'm convinced that the re-growth is less cactus-like than normal which is really just the cherry on top.
I find the constant battle against unwanted body hair time consuming, crushingly repetitive and mind-numbingly boring - with my new best friend I have claimed back a chunk of my life and I've dumped my nasty shaving habit. Thank you Nair!
