The 'C' word
Just the word 'cellulite' is enough to strike fear into the heart of any woman. Before we know it, it has silently manipulated our once smooth and youthful skin, leaving it lumpy, potholed and unsightly. But all is not lost. According to iVillagers from the beauty message boards, there are steps you can take to keep the dreaded cellulite at bay
What is cellulite?
Cellulite is caused by toxins, which surround your fat cells and leave that lumpy, orange peel effect. It is a subcutaneous layer of fat, which means it sits just under the skin. Everyone has it, but it is thicker in women, due to hormones and the fact that we have the children. The reason it looks so bad is because it is near the surface; poor circulation can add to the problem, making it difficult to shift. It's the toxins in the body that keep it where it is.

How to alleviate cellulite
Miracle cure creams have no logic, in terms of why they would work. This is because the layer of fat is subcutaneous and, even if the cream were absorbed by the epidermis, it would not be able to flush the toxins. All 'so-called' cellulite creams do is improve the texture by smoothening the skin, but the lumpiness does not go. The beauty salon I usually go to has a new cellulite reduction treatment, which involves applying a sea weed based lotion to the body, then being wrapped in cellophane for about 20-30 minutes. This is followed by a deep massage. This helps to break down the cellulite, which will then be expelled from the body by natural means.

Try a mix of baby oil and sugar. Rub it into the area before showering; its leaves skin feeling and looking soft and smooth. Fake tan hides it well too, but the number one trick is to act confident and flaunt your personality, then no one will notice your bad bits.

Having a healthier lifestyle will improve your cellulite, but it won't get rid of it completely. You need to drink plenty of water, eat fresh fruit and vegetables everyday, exercise regularly, and cut out caffeine, processed foods and saturated fats. You should also massage the area regularly and shower your legs with cold water. This will stimulate the circulation and help to get rid of the cellulite.

You need to drink plenty of water. Watermelon and cranberry juice are natural diuretics and will help to flush out the system, too, and beetroot is good for detoxifying. Dry skin brushing works well, if you do it every day over the entire body. Start from your feet, work up one leg then the other, working up the body towards the heart, then move on to the hands, up to the shoulders, across the chest. This will stimulate blood circulation, which feeds every living cell and the lymphatic system, which takes all the waste and toxins from the cells. As regards improving the lymphatic drainage, anything that can stimulate the blood circulation can also work on the lymph flow, as they run side-by-side.
