What to wear to weddings?

question

I've been invited to two weddings this year.

I'm now 23 and after four pregnancies, am a plus size. I had c-sections so I have an awful shape to my abdomen, and no waistline! I have blue eyes, pale skin and masses of very long, very dark hair.

I'm currently breastfeeding, so low-cut tops aren't really an option (I have a large chest as it is - and it's even bigger at the moment). I'm also not keen on skirts and dresses as I have man's legs! I'm also not so clever on heels!

I tend to go with black, black and more black... I had thought about wearing a black corset style top with hooks and eyes that do up at the front up, with a pair of black stretch boot cuts, and a black jacket over the top.

answer

Weddings always create sartorial dilemmas don't they! The first rule of thumb is to feel comfortable or you won't enjoy yourself and that's the most important thing after all!

Go with the outfit you have in mind - a corset is a great way to minimise the waist and create a gorgeous hourglass silhouette. All black is perhaps slightly austere for a wedding so introduce colour with accessories. Rupert Sanderson (shoe genius) has an incredible pair of magenta almond-toed court shoes in glossy patent leather that would work perfectly with the outfit and have a really good height heel that is 2 1/2 inches but looks higher enabling you to stand all day in comfort. Failing these you could go with wedges in a bright colour that will be very comfortable but also give you a bit of height which is a great leg lengthener.

Why not make your hair a feature - it sounds lovely, how about wearing it down and cascading; framed with a little pillbox hat or head piece in the same colour as your shoes - go to Cosmo Jenks - she is a genius and has such lovely things that are very modern and not mother-of-the-bride at all! Bright jewellery is also another way to make your planned outfit more wedding-like. If you aren't into hats, why not go for a statement necklace.
