Help for fading hair colour

question
I love the way my hair looks right after it’s coloured, but it always seems to fade significantly within weeks of being dyed. Is there anything I can do to prevent the colour from fading?

answer
Unfortunately, you can’t avoid the fact that hair colour fades with time. Natural factors, including the air and sun and chemical influences, like harsh shampoos, can all contribute to this problem. Furthermore, red dyes tend to fade faster than other colours for some reason. If your hair colour seems washed out but it's too soon to get it coloured again, speak to your hairdresser about trying a rinse, a gentle semi-permanent or a colour-enhancing shampoo to perk up your look. To help minimise fading after you have your hair coloured, be sure to use a gentle shampoo made specifically for colour-treated hair. And if you’re going to be at the beach or out in the sun a lot, cover up your head with a cap or hat.
