Cutting out the chlorine

by Heidi Stanton

question
I swim about four times a week. My hair is long and I have the remains of highlights. What products will effectively wash out chlorine and protect my hair from further damage?

answer
Before you get in the pool wet your hair with non-chlorinated water - your hair is like a sponge absorbing water, so if you allow it to absorb non-chlorinated water first, it won't be able to absorb so much chlorinated water.

Another less popular, but very effective, way to protect your hair in the swimming pool is to wear a swimming cap.

You must also condition your hair with a daily conditioner and use a weekly deep conditioner. John Frieda has two ranges that have ingredients that eliminate unwanted minerals and are aimed at protecting your hair. They are the Beach Blonde and Sheer Blonde ranges.
