Hair how-to: The high ponytail
Hair guru Andrew Collinge explains how to achieve this sleek and elegant style that is a timeless classic
To create this high ponytail, with an added twist, the hair has to be of medium to thick texture and at least six inches past the shoulder.
1. Apply a heat protecting spray such as my Weightless Volume Heat Protect Styling Spray to dampen hair, before blow-drying with a large, round brush and, when dry, set on rollers and diffuse.
2. Take top section of the hair, from eyebrow to eyebrow, and clip back out of the way.
3. Take the rest of the hair and, using a paddle brush, brush the hair vigorously from the nape towards the crown.
4. Once done, secure the hair tightly using a hair tie then gently smooth down any flyaway hair with serum (Shine On Salon Serum).
5. Now take the top section and gently back-comb at the roots. Lightly spray with Salon Shine Firm Fix Salon Hairspray and smooth very carefully with a soft bristle brush.
6. Gather the hair gently at the crown and twist towards the scalp to create a soft quiff. Secure with a grip and allow the ends to fall into the ponytail.
7. Finish with a final spritz of hair spray to keep it in place.
