Expert anti-ageing tips

a woman washing her faceSkin health specialist to the stars Tina Richards offers a few anti-ageing hints and tips

  • Up to 80 per cent of the ways your skin ages can be due to environmental factors. So, during the summer months, wear large sunglasses to protect from UV rays

  • Try to avoid the sun between 11am and 4pm. Five to 10 minutes of sunshine every day is sufficient to ensure your body makes enough vitamin D

  • Nuts, olive oil and oily fish are rich in essential fatty acids which are anti-inflammatory and vital for the health of your body. They noticeably affect the condition of your skin, hair and nails. Snack on a handful of mixed, unsalted walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds and Brazil nuts

  • The essential fatty acids that are important for healthy skin are found in olive oil but it only provides for the lower levels of your skin. Try a moisturiser such as Dove ProAge Cream Oil Body Lotion which has plenty of rich emollients, glycerine and olive oil to give extra nourishment to dry skin

  • Learn how to do facial exercises to firm, tone and maintain the structural muscle mass of your face and neck

  • Red wine is rich in antioxidants, particularly resveratrol, so enjoy a glass or two per week to help protect your skin and body

  • A tablespoon a day of concentrated tomato paste can boost your skin's natural defences against UV rays. By eating it regularly, the antioxidant lycopene in the concentrated tomato helps protect the skin from within from UV-induced free radicals.
