What's causing my itchy spots?

by Dr Lesley Hickin

question
I have little spots covering my chin and on my cheek. They appear overnight, are itchy and make my skin very dry. Can you tell me what they are and how to control them?

answer
These itchy spots of yours could be one of a variety of things, including eczema, an allergic reaction to cosmetics or soap, or even a form of acne called peri-oral dermatitis. I think the best plan would be for you to show your GP when you have an attack and, meanwhile, use a good unperfumed moisturiser such as E45 cream or white soft paraffin (Vaseline).
