Protection on the piste
Before hitting the slopes, make sure your skin is well and truly protected against the ravages of the cold.Since winter slopes are dry, cold and windy, sun protection and moisturising are essential. Even if it's snowing or overcast, you can still get sunburnt through the clouds. Your chances of sun exposure are even greater on a mountain top - at higher altitudes, where the air is thinner, you're more vulnerable to the intensity of the sun's rays. Apply a sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher a good half hour before hitting the slopes. Look for a waterproof formula with a creamy, moisturising base that has both UVA and UVB protection. Don't forget your lips - use a lip balm with sunscreen protection and apply it frequently.
