Winter skin protection

by Sidra Shaukat

question
What's the best way of protecting my skin from the bitter cold of winter?

answer
Your first defence is to wrap-up warm, with scarves around the neck and hats which act as a wind-shield. Guard against the skin-parching effects of colder climates by using the special formula environmental creams which protect facial skin against the elements. The cold weather may make your skin flaky and dry, so use a gentle exfoliator at night-time.

Aerobic exercise will also improve your circulation overall, increase your body heat and add colour to the cheeks. Try to limit exposure to extreme weather conditions of cold or wind.

Moisturisers are a must during cold weather to replace the lack of the natural skin lubricant, sebum. Lips get particularly chapped, so smooth on lip salve, moisturiser or night cream at night, to condition, protect and soften them. Using Vaseline directly on the lips also provides good protection.
