Help for crow's feet

question
I’ve heard the term crow’s feet before, but am not sure what it is. Can you help?

answer
Crow's feet are the fine lines and wrinkles around our eyes. For the most part they're caused by sun exposure, but certain lifestyle habits like smoking can make them worse. Years and years of smiling and squinting can also play a part in how they're formed.

If you want to minimise the appearance of your crow’s feet, treatments include:

  • Sunscreen: Wear it every day and try to avoid prolonged sun exposure.
  • Moisturiser: Applying lotion every day won't cure crow's feet, but it will make your skin look more supple and decrease the appearance of wrinkles.
  • Tretinoin (Retin-A or other retinoids): When applied to the skin these drugs help increase collagen production, strengthening the structure of the skin and reducing the appearance of wrinkles.
  • Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) and collagen injections: These both have a temporarily ‘plumping up’ effect on skin, which can help diminish the appearance of wrinkles.

Speak to your dermatologist about which option is right for you.
