Bonkers for Plonkers and some good cheap cocktails

By Liz McClarnon on 15 Aug 2011 No comments

If I said to you 'Two cocktails for £5!', you'd be thinking watery, tasteless, poor imitations in some dodgy bar...and I have to say, at first I did too!

But, no...at Vanity in York why not try a very well made Cosmopolitan or some other well made concoction.

Last night the cast of Legally Blonde and a few close friends of mine headed there to see what all the fuss was about...needless to say, quite a few hours later (and pockets barely touched) we left, merry and satisfied that there was no catch to the great deal being done for anyone that visits Vanity.

The cocktails are made quickly and extremely well, the music is good (not too pumping for me thank god...unless you want to go to the dance floor upstairs were things get a bit more full on) and the bar staff are good fun!

I obviously have a touch of a headache today but oh yes, it was worth it!

Earlier in the day a few of us went opposite the theatre for a spot of dinner before our show to a great little pub/bar called Plonkers

Now in a pub-kinda-place I don't expect the food to be super duper but you do expect to be full and be happy at the end of your meal.

So I definitely didn't expect a home-made rich and coarse chicken liver pate to start with and red onion relish dish, big enough to be classed as a small main meal.

I was then quite interested to try the Austrian-style ham and eggs that was a bit of gamon in a baking dish, topped off with two eggs a creamy sauce then cheese on top. Yum! It was very different and quite tasty. (I would've preferred they use a but of cheddar instead of what seemed like mozzarella to add a tad more taste and a bit more saltiness to the dish, but it still worked.)

I enjoyed the food at Plonkers (makes me laugh every time, but I do laugh at silly stuff) very much and it was sweet to see the staff there in fancy dress to raise money for a children's charity.

We did wait a while for the food but as soon as that was pointed out it was dealt with quickly. I like that...what else can you ask for really.

More food love tales from York next week when I'll hopefully be getting to sit at one of the famous tables in Betty's for afternoon tea! Fingers crossed!
