Celebrity endorsed beauty? No thanks

When it comes to celebrity-endorsed beauty I tend to err on the side of caution. Most of the time, said celebrity has little to do with the brand and, in the case of fragrances, they couldn’t care less what you smell like as long as their name is on the pay cheque.

Do you really think Kim Kardashian goes around wearing her signature scent? Well, yes, probably. But for the likes of Kylie, Beyonce, SJP and the long line of A-listers that have followed suit with their home-brewed bouquets, I’m sure if they had the choice between their own £15 bottle of perfume and an opulent designer fragrance, they’d plump for the latter.

Surprisingly, this week’s celebrity press release didn’t make my skin crawl – rather a turn up for the books! Documenting Kate Winslet’s partnership with Lancôme I read on, intrigued that someone of Kate’s calibre would get in on the celebrity cosmetics trend.

In fact she hasn’t. It’s actually Lancôme that has created the collection but in support of Kate’s ‘Golden Hat Foundation’ – a non-profit charity that aims to improve the lives of autistic children and a charity that Kate set up off her own bat. In return Lancôme has pledged to donate at least 150,000 Euros of its sales profits to the Golden Hat Foundation.

As well as raising money, the collection is a great way for Kate to raise the charity’s profile (and maybe hers just a little bit) and try as I might to find fault, I have to admit that the trio of products included in the range have already wormed their way into my make-up bag.

A classic red L’Absolu Rouge lipstick (£19.50) and glossy red nail polish (£15) to match, the duo oozes sophistication and glamour and even the gold embossed Kate Winslet signature makes it feel rather special.

But that’s not all folks. The final piece of the jigsaw is the Golden Hat blush palette, £34 – a sparkling pink and gold palette that gives a warming glow when you brush it lightly across your cheeks (just don’t sweep this one over your nose unless you want to look like you’ve been eskimo kissing a glitterball).

And if you’re still feeling charitable, look out for Nail Rock’s Children in Need polka dot nail wraps, in Boots. A simple peel off and stick on job, the smartie style stickers only cost £6.65 with 25% going straight to Pudsey and his posse meaning you can feel smug in the fact you’ve donated some dosh without actually having to get your hands dirty. Your hands in fact, will look great.
