Chilli Sausage and Chick Pea Hot Pot

Ingredients

  • 450g traditional sausages
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 small onions, sliced
  • 2 tbsp chilli powder
  • 6 tbsp tomato chutney
  • 2 tbsp tomato purée
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp red wine vinegar
  • 1 tsp soft brown sugar
  • 400g canned tomatoes
  • 440g canned chick peas
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli, to serve

Directions

  1. Grill the sausages, following the instructions on the pack. When cooked, stand for minutes then slice thickly. Put to one side.
  2. Meanwhile, heat the oil over a medium heat in a large saucepan and fry the onion for minutes. Stir in the chilli and cook for a further minutes.
  3. Add all the sausages and the remaining ingredients. Season to taste. Cover and simmer for minutes. Serve with mashed potato and steamed broccoli.
