Former international sprinter and Olympic medalist Katharine Merry is a regular commentator on BBC TV and Radio, Sky TV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 and has mentored some of the UK's most talented athletes. But, with the recent arrival of baby Lucas, she faces an even stiffer challenge. In her open and honest blog Katharine shares the hopes, fears and daily surprises of life as a new mum
Christmas is coming, holy smoke where has this year gone? Supermarkets are full of selection boxes and Christmas decorations are now going up! It is true what people say, the older you get the quicker the year goes.
This time last year we were excitingly heading towards Lucas's first Christmas. He still won’t get it this year, but I know he will enjoy pulling the tree over and tearing up all the wrapping paper.
People are starting to ask what he would like for Christmas. It’s tough as he is very lucky and has an abundance of clothes and too many toys. I have already started to put toys away that he has grown out of.
What do you buy a nearly 2 year old? I have gone down the 'anything educational' route!
He is coming on leaps and bounds. His vocabulary develops daily with new words and more prolonged sentences. His favourite via Grandma is: 'Lord have his mercy' and he spouts 'My name is Lucas' to everyone! Add this to him shouting 'lady' at every woman when we are out and about and we are coming on well. It's amazing though isn't it how even a word said once under your breath gets into his vocabulary!
He seems to be growing like the weeds in my garden at the moment and having fazes of loving his food and not. I used to worry a lot about how much he ate during the day but I'm a lot more relaxed now as I know he will stock up on the next meal if not too fussed about one. As long as he has his 'poon' (spoon of course!) and gets to feed himself he's happy.
What's also changed is his ability to watch a TV programme for more than 5 seconds. Before they didn't hold his attention, now everything is: 'Mummy....Bubba Jake, Rastamouse or Bub the Builder,' as he calls them. He likes spotting various things in the programmes and Baby Jake is clearly his favourite. I have gathered that off the fact he cries when Baby Jake finishes!
With work and Lucas I barely get a minute for time to myself although I did get a chance to go shopping and grab some more Arbonne products as I had run out. Nominated in the ‘Best New Beauty Product’ category for the UK Beauty Awards 2011 and filled with skin conditioning agents, antioxidants and premium skin preserving ingredients, the Arbonne Makeup Primer features innovative Optilight technology to blur blemishes and ensure skin has a healthy glow. This Primer is perfect as it soothes skin, controls excess oil and diminishes fine lines and pores leaving your face feeling velvety soft and prepared for makeup application.
Priced at £25, the Arbonne Makeup Primer is available from www.arbonneinternational.co.uk
Now its full steam ahead to Christmas and work is ticking along nicely for me. I'm currently up in the clouds heading to Zurich for 24 hours...then back to the family and Baby Jake!
