Plant up containers with seasonal favourites to provide lots of cheerful colour until spring. Follow this simple planting suggestion or choose any other similar plants that catch your eye

1. Select a large pot with drainage holes in the base and fill it with peat-free, multipurpose compost.

2. Plant a grass to arch over the side, such as Carex oshimensis 'Evergold'.
3. Choose a bold, upright evergreen for impact, like this dwarf golden conifer.
4. Add a hardy perennial - Heuchera 'Obsidian' is ideal as it retains its dark, glossy foliage all year.
5. Squeeze lots of winterflowering pansies into any spaces - don't be afraid to really pack them in.
6. Water well to settle the compost around the plant roots, filling any gaps with more compost. Ensure it doesn't dry out over winter.
