What are the dairy alternatives on a low-Gi diet?

question
I generally try to eat healthily and choose low Gi foods. Due to a recent health problem, I've been trying to cut dairy out from my diet as well as avoid phyto-oestrogens. What I should be eating instead to ensure I don't miss out on any nutrients?

I eat soya yoghurt but I hate the taste of soya milk. Can you suggest a better alternative and should I be concerned about calcium or Vitamin A deficiencies?

Thanks so much for any advice you can give me. - Zurcherin

answer
As long as the rest of your diet is balanced, you shouldn't really be at risk of deficiencies. Calcium is found in lots of other foods such as green leafy vegetables, nuts and seeds and white bread (white flour is fortified with calcium so even though it's not low Gi, you could have white bread occasionally).

Vitamin A in the form of beta-carotene is found in lots of vegetables like peppers, carrots, sweet potato, spinach, broccoli and tomatoes. So if you have a mixed intake of all the above, you should be fine.

If you are avoiding cow's milk products, perhaps try goat's milk or even rice milk. Feta made with sheep's milk is also an option for you.
