Get a personal diet plan
I'm addicted to laxatives and eat in secret
I've been taking four laxatives a day for the last year in order to lose weight and am now getting to the stage where I panic if I don't have any left.
I am also just getting to a point where I can't eat in front of people (I think they are looking at me and thinking I shouldn't be eating as I'm so fat). I still have a tendency to eat in secret and hate the feeling of being full as I feel 'bad', yet when I feel empty or hungry I feel 'good'.
My friends say I don't need to lose weight and my boyfriend loves me the way I am but I just can't believe that. I'm 48, 5ft 5in tall, weigh 10st 6lbs and wear a standard UK size 12.

One of the first things I tell my patients is if we are to help them to control their weight, the first thing they need to learn to do is to love themselves. Low self-esteem and emotional problems can give rise to all kinds of disturbed eating habits and until you tackle these successfully you will never achieve long-term weight loss.
You are not alone but it may feel like it! There is a lot of help available and you should discuss with your GP whether you can be referred for specialist, psychological support. You're very fortunate that your boyfriend is so supportive and you should cling to this. Support at home is an ideal start but you are going to need specialist help to conquer this.
