What is my ideal weight?
I am following a sensible weight loss plan and am doing really well - I've lost a stone over eight weeks - but my question is what target weight should I be heading for?
I have been given the target of 8st 3lb which I feel is quite low and I would struggle to maintain. I am 49, 5ft tall and currently weigh 10st 10lb. I do exercise - mainly walking - I can do a 12 mile hill walk no problem - and have recently starting training for the Race For Life.

I never talk about 'ideal weight' with my patients. They just don't get there. The vast majority of people struggle to lose ten per cent of their body weight, but even this amount of weight loss produces dramatic health improvements with reductions in blood pressure, sugar levels, cholesterol levels and heart disease risk.
At 10st 10lbs I would set a target for you of one stone weight loss over three months. When you achieve this, steady your weight for a while and then re-set your goal. This is not only much more realistic but also fantastically productive.
