Big busted

by Angie Newson

question
I am 5'2" and weigh 62 kg. I desperately need help, as my breasts keep getting bigger. While my waist remains constant at 28", my breasts look massive at 40D. Also, they are not firm. I want to do exercises at home to reduce my breast size without investing in any exercise machines. Can you help?

answer
Unfortunately, there is no such thing as spot reducing, or losing fat in a particular part of your body. But, as the bust is made up of fatty tissue (and not muscle), by reducing your calorie intake and increasing your exercise levels, you will lose weight and, consequently, your bust size will decrease.

In order to keep your breasts from sagging, you can try doing exercises for the chest and back. You can't actually firm up the breasts given that they are fat, but you can aim to give the impression they are pert and firm by training the pectoral muscles which surround the breasts. The best exercise to develop your 'pecs' is press-ups, which can be done anywhere. You can get other ideas for exercises by looking at the Shape Up Challenge home exercise programme. Our article Basic weight training also outlines a number of exercises, including the chest press which you can try doing at home with soup tins. Good luck.
