Reward yourself: get moving part two

by Liz Neporent and Maryanne Rumplash
They don't call it a 'work' out for nothing. If you've walked, jogged, spun and kickboxed yourself fit, you'll view exercise as quite hard work. Of course the best fitness benefits—improving your lifestyle, increasing your metabolism, reducing stress and your risk of cancer and osteoporosis—are those you gain with every workout. But since all work and no play can be a dreadful bore, check out our suggestions for ways to reward yourself after an exercise session well done.
  1. Spend time at a spa.Taking a little time out for yourself doesn’t have to be an over-the-top day-long affair. Indulge in a relaxing full-body massage with a licensed therapist once every couple of months, or try reflexology, a treat for the feet. Massage boosts circulation, relaxes you and gives you a mental holiday from the world. Or, try slipping into a steam room, sauna or whirlpool once or twice a week after a workout. This 10 to 15 minutes of bliss will make you feel great.
  2. Become a fitness beginner.Take up rock climbing, fencing, yoga, tennis—any workout that differs from your current routine. A new exercise regimen can recharge your enthusiasm for working out and inspire you to reach new heights of fitness. You'll be refreshed for your regular activity and encouraged by your new one.
  3. Get new gear.Have you been wearing the same socks and hole-ridden tights for years? Hitting the road or going to the gym in a new outfit can jumpstart your motivation. If you've lost some weight or changed your body shape, there's no better time to check out a different style of shorts or that sleeveless t-shirt you've had your eye on. If you don’t have a lot of money to spend, buy a new pair of comfy socks.
