Low-fat cooking oil - does it exist?
I'm trying to lose 15 pounds by eating healthier food and exercising. The trouble is that I happen to love fried food. I'm thinking of buying a deep fat fryer to cook vegetables, like tempura, for dinner. Is there such a thing as light oil or is fried food going to be too high in calories to be worthwhile? I won't buy the deep fat fryer if you think that I'm kidding myself. I'm looking for dinners that I would enjoy eating that aren't more than 400 to 500 calories.
I'm afraid there aren't any fats or oils on the market in this country that are low in fat. So while the occasional deep-fried food is fine within the context of a balanced and varied diet, fatty foods are high in calories and can lead to weight gain if you don't burn off the extra calories. One gram of fat contains nine calories, which is more than twice the amount of calories provided by one gram of carbohydrate. So foods that have been fried or deep-fried are calorie dense.
