The theory: It is thought that isoflavins help reduce the risk of coronary heart disease and various cancers including breast, prostate and bowel cancer. In addition, they may reduce the risk of osteoporosis and help alleviate menopausal symptoms.

The verdict
The big question is: do functional foods really work and are they worth the money? In my opinion, functional foods can be beneficial, but it's important to remember that they are not miracle foods or cures. Having a varied diet, coupled with a good exercise regime, should be your primary concern.
