Celebrities pledge to shape up in 2007

New Year's resolution: Get in shape for a baby

The 42-year-old star, who married burly TV mechanic Jesse James last year, is said to be keen to start a family. But despite some changes to her diet, she admits she does occasionally make the wrong food choices.

Sandra's self-esteem and body suffered when she gave in to 'yo-yo' dieting when she was younger, and she fought a constant battle to regain control over her weight and her emotions.

'I'm going to get really fat,' she would say, 'then I'm going to complain about how fat I've got, then I'll have to go on a diet, then I'm going to complain about being on a diet. It's just a vicious circle. I've been a junk food junkie most of my life.'

These days she thinks a little differently and is proud of her slim and toned body.

'I really changed my eating habits, from pizza and Diet Coke to something like maybe a piece of chicken and some vegetables on the side,' she says.

The Miss Congeniality star won't allow herself to become obsessed with food again and is not afraid to be a little curvier than some of Hollywood's other leading actresses.

'There's something sexy about a gut,' she says, 'Not a 400-pound beer gut, but a little paunch. I love that.'

New Year's resolution: Lose the baby weight

Celebrity mothers fighting the flab after having a baby is nothing new; Gwen Stefani, Angelina Jolie and Rachel Weisz all got back into shape after they gave birth this year.

But Britney, 25, is taking things to extremes in order to get back to being the toned temptress who seduced the world before Sean Preston and now tiny Jayden James came along. She has set about shedding the 40 pounds she gained during her latest pregnancy, as well as the residual gain from Sean Preston's birth over a year ago.

With plans for a new album following her split from wannabe rapper Kevin Federline, Britney is on her way to getting back her image of pop princess with the killer body.

After a succession of photos showing her tucking into junk food and slobbing about in sweats, she was criticised for her reluctance to get back in shape following Sean Preston's birth last September. But no one was more critical than the star herself.

'When I look in the mirror I don't say, "Oh, I'm the most beautiful girl in the world, look at me". I see my imperfections, I do see my flaws,' she said.

'I have let myself go. I've been lounging around, eating and laying about.'
