What are antioxidant vitamins and why are they important?

Vitamins A, C and E are the antioxidant vitamins. They inhibit the oxidation process, or chemical reactions, that occur during the development of coronary heart disease and some cancers, which means these vitamins may also help with the prevention of these diseases. Good sources of antioxidant vitamins include wholegrain cereals, nuts and seeds, fruits and vegetables, especially colourful ones like peppers, carrots, oranges and tomatoes.
