Diets A-Z: The Adam & Eve Diet

continued from page 1

The Naturopathic approach

The Adam & Eve Diet is based on the Naturopathic philosophy that the body will always reach towards a state of health, using its own resources to heal itself. Naturopaths believe that the body is its own best healer. They also recognise that the body, mind and spirit are interconnected and ill-health only exists when the body is not givn the opportunity to self-heal.

Naturopaths describe healthcare as a three-legged stool, in which each leg is part of your life-support system. One leg represents diet, and the quality of food we eat. The second is the structure of our bodies; in particular, the spine, which is the highway between brain and body, and thus the central command system to our organs. The third leg represents the mind, spirit and psyche. It is vital to care for each leg so that the whole support system is strong and steady.

Caring for your body

Many of us have lost the ability to listen to our bodies. We cut off at the neck and ignore messages like hunger, thirst, exhaustion, back and stomach pain, and even the need to go to the lavatory.

This book will help you to help your body, but you must be prepared to give it the attention it requires. You probably service your car regularly, and you certainly wouldn't dream of going up in an aircraft that hasn't been checked over thoroughly and refuelled. This same philosophy has to be extended to the way you care for your body. Treat it to the best grade fuel and oil, plus regular maintenance, and it will reward you with the best possible health.
