DIY facial peel
The idea of a DIY facial peel may sound like a recipe for disaster, but Dr Denese's Triple AHA/BHA at-home fizzing facial peel was a total revelation for our plucky tester Ngaire Stevens.
Dr Denese's Triple AHA/BHA Peel is a home-based alternative to a mild glycolic peel performed in a beauty salon. It's called a triple peel because as well as containing both Alpha and Beta Hydroxy Acids (powerful antioxidants) it also contains Retinol and Vitamin C for exfoliation and anti-ageing benefits. The treatment can be used weekly in place of your usual exfoliator or face pack.
The peel kit contains enough for 6-8 treatments and comprises: AHA/BHA serum; neutralising mineral powder and a measuring spoon.
How to use it
Apply a generous amount of the serum all over the face avoiding the delicate eye and throat area. After three minutes (five maximum), add one measured scoop of the neutralising powder into the palm of the hand and add 2-3 drops of water to turn it into a thick paste. Apply the paste to the face and the peel will fizz and become warm. After 10 seconds rinse off with warm water and moisturise with a good cream.
I approached this treatment with some trepidation - a 'fizzing facial peel' sounded like it could burn the skin or at least cause some discomfort. But I have to admit it wasn't half as scary as it sounded and was actually very easy to use. Far quicker than dealing with a face pack in fact. I barely noticed the fizzing and the warming effect was hardly noticeable. It was also very easy to rinse off.
I was pleasantly surprised at the results. Before beginning the peel my skin looked a little tired and congested with tiny blackheads around my nose and chin area. Afterwards my skin felt very smooth and soft (so much so that I kept stroking my cheek!). I looked cleansed, refreshed and as though I'd just had a facial. The blackheads had also gone but unfortunately not the wrinkles! I'll definitely be using my fizzing facial peel again.
