Eco celebs flying the green flag
Harrison Ford
Eco warrior antics: Harrison Ford is the Indiana Jones of the green movement. As Vice Chairman of Conservation International, Ford believes that unlike his epic adventure movies the battle for conservation is 'a war without an evil enemy.'
He can frequently be spotted patrolling the Hudson River in his Eco-Copter (we made that name up), looking for nefarious polluters to bring to justice. And the action hero has done so much good work that he has a species of ant named after him called the Pheidole Harrisonfordi.
We’re not entirely sure how true this actually is, but it rocks nonetheless!
Eco rating: 9/10. You have to be an eco-King to have a species named after you, even if they are creepy crawlies. Go Harrison!

Cate Blanchett
Eco warrior antics: Australian actress Cate Blanchett lives in an eco-mansion, and is the Ambassador for the Australian Conservation Foundation’s online campaign that gives people a platform to air their concerns on climate change.
She is also the patron of SolarAid, a UK charity that aims to use renewable energy to give affordable power to people in developing countries.
As a green mum, she wants everyone to buck up and do their bit for future generations, and she’s not afraid to shout about it.
Eco rating: 7/10. We can’t all afford to build eco-mansions, but Cate Blanchett has worked hard to raise awareness and tackle the authorities over climate change. Great stuff!

Leonardo DiCaprio
Eco warrior antics: Leonardo DiCaprio is the highest paid Hollywood actor, but rather than spending his wealth of a lavish celebrity lifestyle (which he does, but…) he has invested huge amounts of his personal cash stash into supporting environmental causes.
The Leonardo DiCaprio Fountation champions the WWF Save Tigers Now campaign and he is the proud owner of a $100,000 hybrid sportscar. Expensive? Sure, but it paves the way for accessible cleaner transport for us mere mortals in the future.
Eco rating: 9/10. Leonardo DiCaprio is in line for the ‘Most Responsible Hollywood A-lister’ award. He uses his fame and fortune to raise awareness of issues and highlight environmental issues to a mass audience.

Pierce Brosnan
Eco warrior antics: The James Bond actor has so many environmental credentials under his belt that he’d need his on-screen gadget-man Q to sort them out!
Pierce has promoted all kinds of environmental causes, from marine and wetland protection, to anti-nuclear campaigns. And Pierce uses his high profile to hit the bad guys where it hurts.
His recent battles include taking on the US Navy to prevent the use of sonar in 75% of the world’s oceans as this can be very damaging for whales, dolphins and other marine animals. And right now he is focusing his energies on Iceland, which has been flouting the international whaling ban.
Eco rating: 9/10. Like 007, Brosnan isn’t intimidated by the big wigs, whether they’re from the US military or big business. If you hurt wildlife he’ll take it personally. And when Pierce kicks ass, he does it bloody well.

Savannah Miller
Eco warrior antics: Savannah Miller runs her fashion label Twenty8Twelve with her actress sister Sienna. Her passion for the environment is well known – she installed solar panels into the roof of her children’s clothes shop in London, and her husband is a bushcraft teacher and ‘eco-builder’.
Savannah is a big fan of sustainable living, and like Sir Trevor McDonald is a former advocate of the Future Friendly Awards. She is also living proof that environmentalism can be really stylish!
Eco rating: 7/10. Savannah is one to practice what she preaches. Her garden at home is pesticide-free and full of bee-friendly plants, and despite the expense, her business is geared towards having a tiny carbon footprint - in designer heels of course!

Naomi Cleaver
Eco warrior antics: With her experiences presenting programmes like Grand Designs and Best British Homes, Naomi Cleaver knows about houses and how to make them eco-efficient.
So if anyone can give good advice on how to tweak your property to reduce its carbon footprint and reduce waste, Naomi can. And as one of the former Future Friendly ambassadors, we’re sure she will be putting her knowledge to good use!
Eco Rating: 7/10. There are so many different environmental issues to tackle that sometimes its hard to know where to start. Naomi gives great practical advice on living an eco-friendly lifestyle, without blinding us with science!

Jamie Oliver
Eco warrior antics: Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver is passionate about healthy eating, and that this comes from using sustainable, good quality food.
Not only has he taken on the government and single-handedly lobbied for better school dinners in the UK, he also pushed for better conditions for battery farmed animals and right now he has launched his new frozen fish range which comes from sustainable fish stock.
This is a big issue. Experts believe that some popular kinds of fish like cod and haddock will be extinct by 2050.
Eco rating: 9/10. Jamie Oliver is genuinely passionate about sustainable food and animal welfare. And through his tireless campaigning he has changed things for the better. Pukka!

Kacey Ainsworth
Eco warrior antics: Kacey is best known for her role of Little Mo in Eastenders, but as a former ambassador for the Future Friendly Awards she is showing her tougher side when it comes to the environment.
Kacey lives in her custom built eco-house and tries to incorporate eco-friendly actions into her everyday life. So will we be seeing solar panels and organic bee-friendly compost bins on Albert Square soon? Watch this space!
Eco rating: 8/10. Kacey realises that not everyone can build themselves an eco-home, but she promotes the idea that small changes - like washing your clothes on a lower temperature, or buying concentrated washing up liquid to save on packaging - will make a huge difference.

Gabby Logan
Eco warrior antics: Gabby Logan is well into her sports, but recently she has also emerged as a contender for Environmental Advocate of the Year! The self-confessed green mum is the ambassador for this year's Future Friendly initiative and leading the Future Friendly Awards to root out and reward local communities and individuals who do their bit for the planet.
And you don’t need to move mountains. Gabby believes that if we all make an effort to reduce waste and save water and energy then we can go some way towards really cleaning the environment!
Eco rating: 7/10. Gabby encourages her kids to live a green lifestyle, from walking to school to recycling their waste. Other actions like buying products with recycled packaging, and using detergents that are effective at lower temperatures also makes a difference. And it won’t cost the earth!

Trevor McDonald
Eco warrior antics: Veteran news presenter and national treasure Sir Trevor Macdonald believes that small changes will make a big positive impact on the environment.
Sir Trev supported the launch of the Future Friendly initiative in the UK and Ireland. He is a big advocate of individual action and believes that sustainable living should be the norm. And so do we.
Eco rating: 7/10. You won’t see Sir Trevor McDonald hugging trees, but his message that real change is down to the individuals is bang on. Big events are great for raising awareness but we’re the ones doing the recycling.
