Getting started

In order to introduce you to other like-minded eHarmony members, first we take some time to get to know who you are, and what makes you tick. When you join us, you fill out our Relationship Questionnaire. This helps us get to know the real you, so we can match you accurately. We also take into account your personal preferences – those things that matter to you, such as location and whether or not your match is a smoker.

You’ll usually start to receive your compatible matches within the first few hours; then it’s up to you to review their profiles and decide who you want to start chatting with! There’s no pressure to do endless searches, or to reply to a wave of emails as soon as you join. Every day we will deliver you a handful of matches, which you can review in your own time.

Ten years and still going strong

eHarmony launched in the US over ten years ago. It was the brain child of Dr Neil Clark Warren, a clinical psychologist and marriage counsellor who wanted to find a way to bring together the right people, so they could have a great chance at a happy, healthy future together. He studied thousands of couples, and discovered what made a relationship work – and what didn’t. He soon realised that the couples who had large differences in the way they lived their lives were the ones who were more likely to break up.

Three years later, he had formed the basis of our Compatibility Matching System, which now matches thousands of eHarmony users every day in the UK. In fact, since our launch in the UK in 2008 we’ve had over two million users join us, and we’re growing each day.
