Cate Blanchett returns to her much-vaunted role from the Oscar-nominated production Elizabeth.
She is reunited with a collaborator from the 1998 Academy Award-winning film, Geoffrey Rush, as well as BAFTA-nominated director Shekhar Kapur in a gripping historical drama laced with treachery and romance.
Playing alongside Blanchett as the dashing seafarer Sir Walter Raleigh, is Golden Globe winner and Oscar nominee Clive Owen.
As she prepares to go to war to defend her empire, Elizabeth struggles to balance royal duties with an unexpected vulnerability in her love for Raleigh.
Unable and unwilling to pursue her passion, she encourages her favoured lady-in-waiting, Bess, played by Abbie Cornish (pictured) to befriend Raleigh and keep him near.
Geoffrey Rush plays Sir Francis Walsingham...
...while Rhys Ifans shows he is able to turn to the dark side with his portrayal of anti-Elizabethan Robert Reston.
Eddie Redmayne takes on the role of Thomas Babington.
Samantha Morton plays Elizabeth's cousin, Mary Stuart, who is one of a number of characters under suspicion when a plot to assassinate the monarch is uncovered.
At the centre of the European power struggle, fuelled by religious sectarianism, is King Philip II of Spain, played by Jordi Molla.
The film features stunning scenery, providing the perfect back drop to what is a tense and turbulent drama.
Elizabeth: The Golden Age is released on November 2.
