Etam's star-studded comeback

By Lisa Butcher on 28 Jan 2011 2 comments

Etam has been making headlines recently after holding a star-studded fashion show at the Grand Palais in Paris on Monday. Yes... Etam + star-studded. Hence the headlines. The brand may have ceased UK trading in 2005, but it's still a big deal in France, and it looks like we can expect the label to return to our wardrobes as the online collections re-attract the attention of British shoppers.

Monday's show was the unveling of the brand's S/S11 lingerie and swimwear collections - including Natalia Vodianova's new lingerie designs. The likes of Beth Ditto (The Gossip) and The Kills performed as did Mark Ronson - who was also the artistic director. Jamie Hince of The Kills had his girlfriend - Kate Moss - bopping along in the front row, where you could also spot Alexa Chung, Eva Herzigova, Charlotte Casiraghi and Christian Louboutin, to name but a few. I must say, this underwear is so much better than it ever used to be, there are a couple of things in the collection that I'd wear... and I never thought I'd say that I’d wear Etam. Check out the collection at Etam.co.uk. Watch footage from the star-studded event here.

This isn't the only highstreet brand making a comeback. 82 year-old brand BHS isn't exactly top of my list when it comes to clothes shopping, but in 2009 it became part of the Arcadia group (coincidentally the same group as Etam) which belongs to highstreet mogul Sir Phillip Green (Topshop, Dotty P's...) and now it looks like this highstreet veteren might be making a stylish comeback.

Grazia are raving about BHS's latest collection which is looking much more style driven. I especially like the wide leg jeans (pictured in the Grazia article) - this is a very flattering shape which a lot of people can wear.

I think it's about time BHS had a bit of  a revamp because it was looking decidedly awful. Tesco has done it, M&S has done it, and both Etam and BHS seem to have the right people on board to completely revamp them - I think they're doing a terrific job.

When it comes to highstreet shopping, I have my mainstays... I particularly love Warehouse because they're incorporating the runway looks ver quickly and the quality is excellent, I really like their limited edition pieces - I saw a leather jacket with loads of studs all over it in the Sunday Times magazine - that’s got my name written all over it!

I've just returned from Lanzarote where we shot the new Long Tall Sally collection. A lot of catwalk styles have been incorporated in there too, one particular dress with a long maxi skirt and little lace top is a bit Dolce&Gabbana-esque. It's nice for me to be wearing maxi dresses because most end up at half mast on me, but the Long Tall Sally styles are the right length. Mind you, mid-calf is the look for next season - but personally I don’t think it's flattering, I like it to be maxi or to the knee.

While I was away the kids took themselves off to the last day of the Harvey Nicholls sale. They bought designer jeans - Earnest Sewn and MIH - £10 a pair! And they very sweetly bought me a red cashmere sweater from Joseph. Olivia bought a sandy coloured pair of jeans - very current, and a black pair. And Amber got a light denim pair with what looks like knee patches - it’s a bit biker - the patches look was in Balmain’s catwalk collection and everyone's started copying it.

Olivia is doing a textiles course so when all the shows are on here I'm going to take her along. Amber’s interested in wearing fashion, but she wants to be a singer. She writes her own music and has posted loads on Youtube, she really loves it - that’s her calling.

Product of the week: This week's product is a tip given to me by my make-up artist on the Long Tall Sally shoot - Liberty Shaw, a friend I hadn't seen for nine years! It was lovely hooking up with her again, she's a very cool chick and I absolutely adore her. Here's her advice:

'Winter skin is often stressed with heat, wind and lack of sunlight, the benfit of a great mask can't be underestimated. I recommend Sisley's flower essence mask as it calms, hydrates and tones the skin. To brighten up dull winter skin mix half No7 Skin illuminator, half foundation as this gives a healthy glow that will lift up those winter blues.

The Sisley gel mask is available at JohnLewis.com for £72.50; skin illuminator is £11 at Boots.com.
