Keep cool

Men have a higher sperm count when their genitals are kept at a cooler temperature. So stay away from hot tubs, hot showers and tight fitting underwear. And follow the age-old advice of avoiding saunas or other hot environments, heating pads, and electric blankets - the heat can cause your testicles to become too hot, which decreases sperm quantity.

Smoking

Cut it out. Smoking has been shown to reduce both the sperm count and the sperm motility.

Diet

If men are malnourished or not getting enough of the right foods and nutrients their sperm count can suffer.

There are important nutrients, for example zinc, selenium and folic acid that play a particularly important role in men's reproductive health. These can be found in a variety of foods and through supplementation such as Wellman Conception supplements.

Fatigue can have an effect on a man's interest in sex so it is important to try and find a balance.

Environmental factors

Stay clear of environmental poisons and hazards. These include pesticides/insecticides, organic solvents, lead, ionizing radiation, heavy metals, and toxic chemicals.

Drugs

Even small amounts of cannabis can cause a low sperm count, poor sperm speed and increased sperm abnormalities.

Exercise

The American Society of Reproductive Medicine reports that regular exercise (five times a week for at least 45 minutes), as well as a healthy diet, boost fertility by keeping body weight at a normal level and relieving stress and anxiety.

However, best swap the exercise bike for the treadmill. The repeated banging of the groin against the bicycle seat can damage critical arteries and nerves. Friction can raise the temperature of the testicles and may exacerbate a low sperm count.
