Finding his feet

The time continues to fly by and Christmas rapidly approaches.

The major event this week though has been Lucas finding his feet, literally. He has been crawling for a couple of months and standing unaided for a couple weeks, so taking his first steps was always on the horizon.

A few days of prolonged balancing progressed to where he was rooted on the spot for about 10 seconds, in no man’s land not knowing what to do... you could tell he was thinking, “I don’t want to fall, but what do I do!?” He took a step and fell. He got straight back up and tried again, this time taking a stronger step and then thinking “This is easy, I want to run!” He fell again!

He genuinely tried to run, we couldn’t believe it.

He is very persistent my son so got back up and boom...he was off, 1,2,3,4,5, 6 little wobbly steps. It was wonderful. We were on the edge of our seats trying not to get too excited to put him off. I shed a little tear as my little lion had worked it out.

It is a great moment isn’t it? The realisation that they are rapidly developing and then also realising that things are going to change again. He was bad enough to keep an eye when crawling, but now he has put 2 and 2 together. Oh Lord!

The stair gates arrived this week and they are needed badly now, so thanks to Lindam my little one can crawl and practice his walking in safety around the house.

I am struggling to get things done now though as he is all over the place. So we have invested in a playpen for him. Just for a while he will happily play with his toys in a safe environment and I can potter around and get things done. He likes it as he can see me all the time and knows I am not far away.

Another progression this week has been the bond between him and Daddy.

I spend the most time with him but he doesn’t bat an eyelid when I leave to go anywhere, where as his Daddy! In the mornings now when he goes to work, in fact when he goes out the room at anytime, he doesn’t like it and starts crying! This is very sweet but when Daddy has gone to work, I have a noisy emotional 20 minutes until he calms down. For me, when I leave him...nothing!

When I return from a day’s work, I do get a smile. Daddy? It’s like he’s been away for a month! Lots of gums and teeth on show and he flaps his arms like a windmill. He gets very excited.

Talking of teeth he now has 6. 4 on the top and 2 on the bottom, they are sprouting through almost daily now. I tried to brush them this week, let’s just say that is work in progress!

I decided this week it would be a good idea to get Lucas a playpen to avoid him vanishing every time I turn around! The Lindam 'Safe and Secure Playpen' seemed like the best option due to its versatility converting from playpen to room divider and safety gate, which should prove really handy when visiting friends and family over Christmas who have less baby friendly homes!
