First steps towards walking
Given myself and my partner are not ones to sit down for more than five minutes I should have predicted our son would be much the same... he continues to love whizzing around the house on his hands and feet although this week decided to step it up a gear, literally.
He has been a fan of his walker for a while but hadn't got his head around the key part of 'walking,' preferring to pull himself up on it and using it as a climbing frame, much like most of the furniture in our house! On Tuesday, however, it suddenly clicked for him. I was tidying up the living rooming (the never ending task) and suddenly - wooosh - he was off, there was no stopping him unless he was forced to a halt when he hit something... including my toe!
I, of course, immediately rushed around grabbing anything which would capture this landmark - digital camera, mobile phone and Flip - scared to miss a moment! I had to contain my excitement as I wanted Lucas to surprise Daddy with his new trick when he got home from work so had to resist emailing across the video clips as I do from time to time.
He picks up quite a pace too! It's funny to see the difference between my partner and I when Lucas is whizzing about, he tends to hover behind Lucas in case he falls where as I give him more freedom. Even within just a few days he has become a lot steadier on his feet and drops over a lot less, he also stands unaided now for a few seconds then - bump - onto his bottom. It is amazing how quickly they learn new skills, I'm still amazed that he has conquered one and - whizz - he is onto the next!
Along with putting one foot in front of another, he has more teeth on the horizon. You can see the white just under the skin. His bottom two have sprouted nicely and the others don’t seem to be bothering him at all. I feel they will be coming out all over the place any time now!
His milk routine has changed a little. I have dropped his mid morning milk to increase his appetite for lunch; it seems to be working and he does enjoy his food. He is funny though, when he has had enough of something he just holds it in his mouth like a squirrel. The next stage is absolute refusal of the food along with grunting!
He is at a great age now, though, as we play games copying each other and he waves at everybody, people we pass in the aisles at the supermarket, people in the park and even actors on TV! To be honest I think he just likes the action of waving as he does it at nothing sometimes! A real royal wave at that! He has also learnt how to high five Daddy, a typical Daddy thing to teach!
We are getting set for our first mini break as a family to Center Parcs and I can't wait! The facilities look amazing and I intend to make the most of them - including the swimming pool! I haven't taken Lucas swimming yet so have stocked up on the essentials including:
Swimbabes Basic Baby swim kit (RRP £15.99)
The Splashabout Baby boy wrap neoprene wetsuit (RRP 19.95) which was recommended by a friend and turned out to be one of Swimbabes bestsellers when I looked online! Hopefully it will keep the little man warm and prevent the shock factor of water to changing room chills. With that in mind I wonder if they do them in my size...
