Father's Day needn't be an expensive extravaganza. Find out how you and the kids can make the day in dad's honour a simple, yet special, occasion
Make breakfast in bed
Dads love a bit of pampering, so his favourite breakfast delivered direct to his bed, along with the newspaper, should go down a treat. A traditional fry-up will always be welcomed, but if the kids are involved, how about a boiled egg, toast and fruit - plus a lovely fragrant pot of coffee. Or you could really push out the culinary boat with some scrambled eggs and smoked salmon, bagels with cream cheese, or pancakes.
Indulge him
Whether it's football, golf, or fishing, dad is bound to have a pastime he loves. The pressure of family life often means he won't get to indulge his passion, but on his special day give him a 'pass' to snooze by the river, tee off with his golf buddies or watch the footie - with no interruptions!
Make him a card
Get the kids to craft him a wonderful homemade card - it'll mean so much more than the shop-bought kind. Or why not create a fun e-card ?
Treat him like a king for the day
Why don't you and the kids do all the jobs he hates: whether it's washing the car, cleaning his shoes, or mowing the lawn - give him a break from the weekly chores.
Take him for a dad's day out
Go on a family outing to dad's favourite place. It could be a local museum or place of interest, a nearby restaurant for a family lunch or even to the park for a game of cricket. It's dad's choice and everyone has to go along with it - like it or not!
