Wine of the week: Lindauer Special Reserve

Too early to be thinking of Christmas? No, says Alice King, who’s found her festive fizz already: a top Kiwi bubbly at a low price

If you’re into fizz but object to paying Champagne prices, then look to New Zealand and take advantage of one of Tesco’s special offers. Until 9th October (subject to availability), the consistently good Lindauer Special Reserve is reduced from £8.99 a bottle to £7.49.

This has a gentle hint of pink (although strictly speaking it’s white), and is a rich, buttery, toasted fizz. Because of its richness of flavour, it’s a perfect accompaniment to food, especially chicken and fish dishes.

Personally, I think it’s a lot better than many Champagnes at twice the price. Try it, and if you agree, stock up now for Christmas – it won’t be at this price for long.
