Good habits
It's amazing how a little bit of exercise focusses your mind and inspires you to lead a more healthy life.
I'm not saying I was a lardy couch potato by any means but I must confess, my will power when it came to chocolate and other heavenly treats wasn't that strong. And I still indulge every so often - no point denying yourself the pleasures in life - I just have one eye on maintaining the good work I've put on the Wii Fit Plus.
This week, my main focus has been on aerobic exercises.
I was a fairly decent runner at school and stamina is a strong point so this is an area I'm keen to build on.
I began by having a jog round Wuhu Island - the focus here is on maintaining a steady running rhythm rather than going hell for leather. Initially, my instinct was to cut loose and get a sweat up but I managed to find the discipline to stick with my instructor and adhere to his pace.
When you are forced to stick to a rhythm, you do find yourself running with a more 'polished' style, therefore working the muscle groups more effectively.
I was then keen to get a sweat up so I opted for a step class - Basic Step.
This is a really fun workout, as you find yourself on a stage with four other Miis, performing a step routine in front of a captive audience.
As ever, the instructor talks you through every step and the on-screen guide helps you develop the step rhythm required. The steps - and their frequency - increase the further into the routine you go, so any giggling that may have occurred in the early stages soon gives way to heavy breathing.
Again, I was always a fairly confident stepper when I attended classes a few years back, so I felt like I performed pretty well, and I'll be looking to 'step up' to the advanced levels in the coming weeks.
I'm also keen to make my Wii Fit Plus habits stick and will be making sure my diet stays healthy and balanced to compliment my new exercise routine. I've made a solid start and I'm determined not to let it slide!
