PCOS and weight-loss
I was diagnosed with PCOS but I fell pregnant a few weeks later, so it was never treated. I'm 5ft 2in and was between 10 and 11 stone at that time. I am now just under 13 stone.
I try to follow a low GI diet - I've seen it recommended for PCOS. Is there anything else that could help my weight loss? How strictly do I need to stick to low GI foods to see a benefit? Can I find out if I'm insulin resistant without asking my GP for tests?
I saw in your programme that you had prescribed metformin for a woman with PCOS to help with weightloss. Would that be suitable for most people?

We strongly recommend that you remove dairy products, including beef and also chicken, unless it is organic, because of added hormones and antibiotics which play havoc with your hormones.
A low-GI diet is important to help balance your blood sugar levels and reduce your insulin resistance. Metformin can also be helpful as is exercise for combatting insulin resistance.
Unfortunately there is no way to be sure that you have got insulin resistance without doing tests but if your waist is greater than 35in then you can be almost certain you do.
