Irritable Bowel Syndrome alternatives to beef?

question
I suffer from IBS and can't eat beef but my husband says it's good for me because of all the vitamins. Can you recommend a meat which will give me the same or better benefits please? Also I don't eat a lot of vegetables but love salads, is this just as good for me?

answer
Beef does supply a range of nutrients but it can be hard work on the digestion. Fish is a great alternative. Also poultry such as chicken and turkey are easier to digest. Choosing foods that are in season means we eat more salads in the summer as they are cooling for the body. If you like that fresh taste, buy a bamboo steamer (about £10) and gently steam the vegetables for a few minutes.

Vegetables are a great source of fibre, so ensure you are having your five portions a day along with plenty of water to keep things moving.
