Green-lipped mussels and your health

by Alyson Greenhalgh and Dr. Sara Kirk

question
I have heard that green-lipped mussels are good for you. What do they do?

answer
There is very limited scientific literature in this area of supplementation. However it is believed that the presence of a substance called chondroitin sulphate in these mussels may strengthen the cartilage, ligaments and connective tissue and lubricate the joints. Most people take this supplement when recovering from joint or muscle injuries.
