What's all the fuss about vitamin B6?
A lot of my friends take Vitamin B6 for PMS. Is it safe?
Vitamin B6 is often taken as a supplement to help alleviate cramps and bloating associated with pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS). However, large doses of this vitamin can damage the nervous system causing numbness and tingling in the hands and feet. The safest way to increase your intake of this vitamin is through food sources like certain fruits and vegetables like bananas, cantaloupe, melon, broccoli, spinach, and protein foods like meat, fish, and poultry. Vitamin B6 from animal foods is often more readily absorbable than from plant foods, and the recommended daily dose of vitamin B6 for women is 1.2 mg per day.
