Back pain basics

question
I've had lower back pain for a while now and the pain goes to my hips and stomach and the top of my legs. I don't know what it can be - any ideas? I would appreciate it if you could help me.

answer
It is always important to seek advice about a persistent pain like this. A number of different things can cause pain in the lower back, hips and stomach including bowel, urinary, hip and pelvic organ problems. Your doctor will be able to assess you fully, ask relevant questions, gently examine you and request any necessary tests. It will help your doctor if you can describe what the pain is like (for example, throbbing, stabbing, aching, sharp, comes and goes in waves) and whether anything in particular brings it on (for example, opening your bowels, eating, making love and passing water).
