Sores inside my eyelids

by Dr Sarah Brewer

question
I have very small sores on the inside part of my left eyelid - one above my eyeball and the other below. It's uncomfortable to wear my contact lenses. Could this be an infection caused by the contact lenses?

answer
Do get the painful areas checked as soon as possible. Every eye problem needs to be diagnosed quickly - especially if you wear contact lenses, as there is some risk of infection.

Several conditions can cause sores and lumps around the eye and, although many heal themselves, all need to be properly diagnosed, in case they need medical treatment. Ensure that all non-disposable contact lenses are cleaned thoroughily to bugs like acanthamoeba, a particularly nasty infection that can be associated with contact lenses.
