Swollen after sex

After I have sex, I find both my inner vaginal lips are extremely swollen (much larger than the outer lips) and extremely painful, and it stings when I pass urine. I had sex more than 12 hours ago and am still in extreme pain, as one of the lips is still swollen. I find it very uncomfortable to cross my legs and wear trousers. I have also noticed that over the lip there is a white thick discharge.

Don't put off seeking help! Make an appointment at your local GUM (Genitio-Urinary Medicine) clinic for a check-up, to ensure there is no bacterial imbalance or hidden infection. It is a good idea for your partner to be checked, too. You can find your nearest GUM clinic by phoning your local hospital and asking for the number, or by logging on to www.playingsafely.co.uk

Part of the problem may be an allergy to spermicides or gel, or friction, especially if you are dry. Try using a lubricant such as Bio-Fem Actigel, which is also soothing.
